“Very soon C.E.O. Maheia, we will also be making another contribution of two hundred and six laptops. This set of laptops will go to five high schools and financing to pay for the cost of these computers is also coming from the Basic Needs Trust Fund Ninth Program and it’s going to cost the program a total of six hundred and seventy-nine thousand dollars with funding from the Caribbean Development Bank and the Government of Belize. This is a small but important effort in our march towards progress. We are interested in the development of this nation and the prosperity of its people and that begins with the proper education of the children and the proper instructions of young people. We have a lot of young people who have been left behind because they are unable to access online learning simply because they don’t have the tools. So we hope with this contribution that we will begin to bridge that gap. And this is by no means what we need; there’s more that needs to be done and I can assure you that the Social Investment Fund and the Ministry of Education and personally myself and C.E.O. Maheia will continue to work together to bring education as close as possible to the children during this very difficult time caused by the pandemic.”
