Humane Society holds AGM
The Belize Humane Society and Animal Shelter has been working hard to clean the streets of stray and sick animals. At their annual general meeting on Tuesday the society reported that they have made significant progress during the past year. To date B.H.S.A.S. has found homes for seventeen stray dogs and ten stray cats, but sadly they have had to euthanize twenty-nine injured or sick dogs and cats. To help pet owners maintain healthy animals, the society holds rabies clinics throughout the country. A total of four hundred and seventy one dogs, fifteen cats and one raccoon received shots in Belize City, San Pedro and Placencia this year. Besides the annual dog show, the Humane Society educates children on responsible pet care by visiting schools with some furry friends and answering questions from the students. B.H.S.A.S. has plans to construct and maintain the country’s first animal shelter in Belize City. The society invites anyone interested in joining to contact them at 44764. Contributions for the animal shelter can be made to Atlantic Bank account number 246058.
