Cayo school conducts job training
Businesses throughout Belize are accustomed to taking in high school students as part of office practice or internship programs during the month of May. But this year one primary school decided to give some of their standard six students a little exposure to the world of work. Ontario Christian School in the Cayo District enlisted the help of community gas stations, shops, hospitals and even Guanacaste Park to place fifty students in a two-week work experience program. The 30 boys and 20 girls got their feet wet in the areas of carpentry, customer service, mechanics, conservation, tourism and agriculture. According to the school, the exercise was designed to help the students make better decisions and be aware that there are meaningful alternatives available in life.
