Disability Week underway
The Department of Human Development is sponsoring disabilities week this year under the theme, “Equal opportunities for all”. The week, which started on Sunday May 23rd and ends this Saturday May 29th, is packed with informative and entertaining activities countrywide. According to Human Development Department’s Acting Coordinator, Anna Williams, the theme has a special meaning.

“We are looking at equal opportunity as sort of boosting the society into looking at disabled persons as persons who are able to do something for themselves. So we are asking the community to just look at providing opportunities for them so they can show themselves to everybody.
We hope to sensitize the community as much as we can. As we look at the theme, “Equal opportunities for all,” we want to sort of provide the opportunities for disabled persons to be included in this society.”
Activities scheduled for Belize City this week include a community service clean-up on Thursday and a fun day at the National Stadium on Friday.
