Captain Charlie Good back on hunger strike

Story PictureA regular staple these days in our weekly newscast is Charles and Hirian Good. Last week, Charles said that he would take things to the next level if there wasn’t any progress on the court case. To backtrack a bit, Hirian was fired from her job as a school warden because of her political preferences. Her husband, a retired B.D.F. captain, joined her in regular protest in front of the Supreme Court building in Belize City. On Wednesday Charlie called us to say he is going on a hunger strike even though he could die as a result of the health risks.

Ret’d Captain Charles Good, Going on Hunger Strike
“Monday and Tuesday my wife and I were not here. High blood pressure was fluctuating along with my diabetic condition and I think the whether had something to do with it as well. It Sunday night and Monday morning I wasn’t able to make it out here. Tuesday, the same thing and we are here this morning. Raise my next level to hunger strike.”

Jose Sanchez
“Hunger strike? You have high blood pressure and diabetes, yet you will go on a hunger strike. You could die from this you know that, right?”

Charles Good
“I’ve been in this position many times protecting this country.”

Jose Sanchez
“Do you have life insurance Mister Good?”

Charles Good
“No I don’t.”

Jose Sanchez
“If you pass away, you will leave behind four kids and a wife. They would be without you. Is it really worth it?”

Charles Good
“In my mind, yes. Look Sanchez, you got to make sacrifices in these issues. People have died, people have been beaten up, people have been arrested, they have been jailed, they have died, they have been killed. So this is no different.”

Jose Sanchez
“Wouldn’t it be better for your family just to have you? I mean, yes the case hasn’t come up yet, but you can’t force the court to hurry up because you are ready.”

Charles Good
“It’s not a matter of forcing the court. Look, let me say this Sanchez, we have a series of problems in this country. Even the court is under heavy fire as I put it.”

Good said that he would meet with his attorney Arthur Saldivar to see how they can proceed with the legal aspect of his wife’s case.
