Power restored but phones still out
An accident yesterday on Douglas Jones Street left area residents without power until noon today. Telephones were also out. B.E.L. told News Five today that the original problem caused by the downed power lines was corrected at 11:30 last night, but another malfunction occurred this morning in the same area and repairs continued until noon. Since B.T.L. shares the same utility poles, their repair crew could not get to work until the electricity team came down. B.T.L. says they expect their customers to regain service within the next few hours. The commotion and interruption of both services resulted when a tow head truck travelling south on Douglas Jones snagged a cable hanging across the street at the corner of New Road. The impact pulled down all the cables and lines in the immediate area and a main lamppost broke in half.
