Robbery suspects denied bail

Story Picture
Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord apparently felt enough was enough today when he denied bail to two men who are accused of committing an armed robbery while on bail for another incident. Ronald Cox and Jeffrey Flowers were handcuffed and escorted over to Magistrate’s Court, and charged with the theft of over two thousand dollars worth of jewelry from Reyes Jewelry on King Street on Wednesday. It is alleged that Cox and Flowers, who were masked and dressed in black, entered the store as a third man identified as Ernest Hinds stood watch at the door. The prosecution asked Lord not to grant Cox and Flowers bail because it was only one week ago that both defendants were in court on another robbery charge and were in fact on bail when the Reyes robbery occurred. The prosecution also reminded the Chief Magistrate that the first robbery incident also involved firearms. Flowers was additionally charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and discharging a firearm in connection with an incident on May nineteenth when it is alleged that Flowers attacked Sullivan Flowers on Juneville Street in Belize City. Magistrate Lord told the defendants that the last time they were before him he had asked them to do themselves and him a favor and not come back to court. Lord also reminded Flowers, who is sixteen years old, that for the past two years he has been continually arrested and brought to court. But before Flowers was taken from the courtroom, he complained that the police assaulted him and as a result he has pains in the stomach. Lord then ordered that before Flowers is transferred to prison, he should receive a medical examination at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Ernest Hinds was charged with the possession of stolen goods.
