S.J.C. teacher out on bail
Since May fifth, Carlos Milan, the S.J.C. teacher, who was arrested and charged with attempted rape and indecent assault of a minor, has been imprisoned at Hattieville. Today, the Integrated Science teacher got out on bail. Milan, who is represented by attorney Simeon Sampson, appeared in Magistrate courtroom number one before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord. According to Lord, unless it is a charge of murder or treason an individual can be granted bail. Furthermore Lord told News Five that the police did not have any objections to the request and after listening to arguments presented by Sampson, he used his discretion and granted bail. However, bail was granted with specific conditions. Milan must hand over all his travel documents, report to the police station every Friday and not have any contact with the minor he is accused of molesting. If Milan fails to comply with any of the conditions, Lord said he will be picked up and sent to Hattieville. Milan was offered bail in the amount of five thousand dollars plus one surety of the same amount. He is scheduled to reappear in court on June twenty-sixth. Milan was charged after he was allegedly caught with the minor at a relative’s home in Belize City. Although Milan has argued that the incident never took place and he is being framed, the minor has reported to police that it was not the first time the teacher sexually assaulted her. Medical examinations conducted on the child showed signs of sexual abuse.
