Van driver charged with death at Queen’s Square
While the collision on Douglas Jones resulted in some inconvenience for area residents, yesterday’s accident at the Queen’s Square Market resulted in a needless death. Today William Black, the driver of the van, which hit a pickup and pinned a seventy year old woman to a larger truck, was charged. According to witnesses Salustia Durante was standing on West Collet Canal in between a pickup and a truck when the accident occurred. She was rushed to the hospital but later died. The van also careened into the side of a market stall across the street almost hitting a vendor. Today Black was charged with manslaughter by negligence and causing death by careless conduct.
