Truck pulls down electric wires
Shortly before five this evening, traffic on Douglas Jones Street came to a stand still and residents living in the area experienced power failure. The commotion was caused when a tow head truck travelling south snagged a cable which was hanging across the street at the corner of New Road. The impact pulled down all the cables and lines in the immediate area and a main lamppost broke in half. The truck driver Angel Jang and his passenger Garry Enriquez claim the cable was hanging too low.
Angel Jang, Driver
“I was just coming down the street on this side of the road and was trying to get on the other side but another vehicle was coming. I was coming slowly and I felt a little trembling in the vehicle so I stopped and when I looked the wires were coming down.”
Garry Enriquez, Passenger
“It was hanging low because only one cable touched the vehicle when the man was driving. I just gave him a little shout. It was just coming around the side when I saw everything falling apart.”
Q: “You said that the residents have been complaining for some time?”
Garry Enriquez
“One resident who witnessed what happened alerted the driver and the passenger by saying that it had happened before and said that they had complained about it to B.T.L. stating that the wire itself was still low.”
Jang had just come from collecting some goods and was making his way back to Stann Creek. At this time police have not charged him in connection with the incident as the matter remains under investigation. According to a B.E.L. spokesperson they hope to have power restored to the area soon.
