Farmers of the year announced
With the National Agriculture and Trade Show opening this Friday in Belmopan, the Ministry of Agriculture has announced the Farmers of the Year. Manuel Posadas of San Pedro, Corozal has been chosen Farmer of the Year for his cultivation of cash crops such as sugarcane, plantain, vegetables and root crops. He also raises livestock and attends seminars on agriculture conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture. Elaine Ireland of Blackman Eddie Village has been selected as Lady Farmer of the Year. She grows fruit trees and root crops and raises livestock and poultry. Junior Farmer of the Year is Santiago Lorenzo Juan. The 24 year old young man has studied farming in Costa Rica and practices furrow irrigation. The farmers will be recognized at the Agriculture Show this weekend at the show grounds in Belmopan.
