Fraud investigation at Income Tax Department
Many of us are looking forward to the extra cash we’ll get from our tax refunds, but it seems someone from the Income Tax Department has been trying to cash in on the high volume of forms being processed, and cash in big. Assistant Commissioner Eric Eusey confirmed to News Five today that he is heading an internal investigation, but says because so much of the information is confidential he cannot comment further at this time. However, sources tell News Five that the investigation centers around allegations that someone in the department has generated a number of false TD4 forms and made claims for tax refunds for people who aren’t even employed. Our source tells us that so far the fraudulent blue slips discovered have amounted to over 40 thousand dollars in supposed refunds. It is not clear at this point how many forms are suspected of being fake or how long they have been in the pipeline.
