James Adderley has sports

Story Picture
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and welcome to this version of Sports Monday. The Southern Bombers landed at the City Centre Friday night looking for their first win in semi-pro basketball. However, going up against undefeated B.T.L. Nets with the best record in the league was never going to be a walk in the park.

Nevertheless the Dangriga team comes out firing as John Rhys sinks a 3-pointer. Down court Rhys misfires but Alex Lewis stays with the play for the put back which gives the South a 13-10 lead. Rhys continues to narrow the B.T.L. defense and extends the lead with a left hand finish. Kenrick Fernandez then spots up for a 3-point launch which gives the Dangriga team a 10-point lead. This wakes up the Nets, so Kevin Seroki sinks the 3-pointer to get the rally going.

A.C. Augustine then takes Bey Castillo to school going to the underhand right that’s good for 2. Leroy Forbes then comes off the bench and he lays 2 points off the glass. On an offensive press Seroki hooks up with A.C. who drills the three point shot. And then Lloyd Leslie demonstrates his great foot speed to get the easy 2 and at the half the Nets have grabbed a 50-42 lead.

In second half play, the Bombers immediately attempt a run as John Rhys goes to the left hand; he would finish with a game high 27 points. Roscoe Rhys knocks down the tre. It’s more Dangriga offense when Derek Morgan goes for 2 and the Southern Bombers find themselves down by 4. In heavy traffic Marvin “Bey” Castillo ties the ballgame at 62 apiece as he scores 2 of his 13 points for the game. But down the stretch, B.T.L. proved just too much. Leroy Forbes outruns Dangriga for 2 of his 13 points. A.C. Augustine played big and he hits 2 of his 22 points and would also gather 14 rebounds. Eloy “the Admiral” Lamb goes baseline in money time; he would finish with 15 points, 17 rebounds.

Lloyd Leslie then outruns the Dangriga defense again and stones it down with emphasis; he would score a total of 21 points. The B.T.L. Nets go on to win 88 to 76 taking their record to an impressive 6-0 showing.

Frank Lord, B.T.L. Nets

“Southern Bombers came in hard; they didn’t have anything to lose but we had to defend the 5-0 record. I think down the stretch we had to come out very hard and work for that one.”

Q: “It was a slow start for B.T.L. Nets; what happened?”

Frank Lord

“We took a long time to get it together. That two weeks didn’t do us much bad because we had a game in Chetumal which we won but it was just a slow start for us.”

Q: “Do you think you can capture an undefeated season?”

Frank Lord

“Definitely. We’ll take it one game at a time. We have the Lakers game coming up next week. We will work towards that in this week coming and I think we can do it 10-0.”

In other semi-pro matchup at the City Centre, Brothers Habet Lakers got 30 points from Dwight Myvette to hurt Cristal Pirates 87-71.

Now let’s go to the Pickwick Club where brothers Billy Musa Jr. and Curtis Musa are holding fort against Michael Meighan and Jason Musa. They took the first set 6-3 and then blanked the opposition 6-0 to win the men’s open doubles tennis of lawn tennis. Billy Musa Sr. and Sonny Meighan, two masters from the past, joined forces to take the senior open doubles tournament staged over the weekend.

Hey folks, that’s our show. We certainly wanna invite you back same time, same place next week. We also wanna remind you it’s a biggie coming at the City Centre Friday night when Habet Lakers and B.T.L. Nets face off in a prime time package. That’s it. Jah over all. I’m James Adderley.
