Peyrefitte Blasts Prime Minister Office Updates

Michael Peyrefitte

Senator Peyrefitte went on to question the purpose of the fifteen million dollars being allocated to the Ministry of Health and Wellness. Additionally, he lambasted the Briceño Administration for asking the National Assembly to approve some two hundred thousand dollars for upgrades to the Prime Minister’s office, in a period of national economic constraints.

Michael Peyrefitte, Lead U.D.P. Senator

“Medical supplies, fifteen million dollars, hustle, and I will tell you why. What are you doing, they are giving it away in the rest of the world. They are giving it away. Why can’t we source our friends, friends of Belize that you supposedly have to donate some of these medical supplies to most of these first work countries that don’t treat COVID as serious as us, they are giving the medication away. You are charging a hundred dollars for Belizeans to leave Mexico and come into Belize. The same test cost three hundred dollars in Chetumal, three hundred dollars, but yet you sell it here for a hundred dollars. Who is getting these contracts to provide these pharmaceuticals? For the Prime Minister, Office of the Prime Minister, upgrade of the office building, two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. I could have sworn one was left for you to occupy, two hundred and fifty thousand dollars? Is this the one at the Sir Edney Cain Building, or the one in Belize City, which office building needs two hundred and fifty thousand dollars of repair? Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars when price of gas is going up, you can’t give people their raise, increment, ten percent. When you are telling people you can’t give them anything, can’t even implement a five dollars minimum wage, but the Prime Minister’s office needs repairs of two hundred and fifty five million dollars. Then, purchase of furniture and equipment for the office of the Prime Minister, ten thousand dollars was already budgeted you know, Madam President. Ten thousand dollars since March of last year to February of last year, they used ten thousand dollars. You know how much they want for one more month? For one more month they are asking for forty five thousand dollars. You need forty five thousand dollars for furniture, when you called a commission of inquiry and tried to implicate me for two chairs that I buy? Forty five thousand dollars for the Prime Minister’s office, what kind of furniture he need suh, they are what Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Bodega?”
