Senator Salas Bids Farewell to Senate, Notes Key Improvements

Osmany Salas

As we told you last night, Senator Osmany Salas, the Senator for N.G.O.s, has tendered his resignation from the Senate to take up a position at the World Wild Life Fund as the Country Lead for Project Finance for Permanence. Senator Salas has served in the Senate for the last five years. As he made the announcement of his departure during Wednesday’s Senate meeting, Senator Salas made note of the improved culture within the Senate over the last year.

Osmany Salas, N.G.O. Senator

“I must mention that I highly appreciate what I characterize as the refreshingly inclusive leadership, actions of the Leader of Government Business. I must thank you Minister Courtenay for being a good listener, for ensuring that as Senators we have the opportunity to express our concerns on bills and one thing that I must say has happened during this current session of the Senate, I have seen several instances where when Senators have expressed genuine concerns on bills, the pause button has been hit. Those have either been put off the table, or left in committee so that there is a chance to improve on them. I think that is very refreshing and I look forward to that continuing. I also must recognize and thank Madam President, how hard you have been working, along with your counterpart in the House. Madam President, I have seen you working hard to ensure the Senate gets the respect it deserves. I look forward to you continue that effort Madam President.”
