Senator Courtenay Calls on U.D.P. Chairman to Call J.P.A.C. Committee to Find Out Why They Do Not Meet
Senator Eamon Courtenay, Senator for Government Business responded to the concerns raised about the Joint Public Accounts Committee, by pointing fingers at the Opposition. According to Senator Courtenay, it is the Opposition who wields the power to set the committee in motion.
Eamon Courtenay, Government Business Senator
“There is a Joint Publics Account Committee. I didn’t hear anybody over there talk about it, I wonder why. Senator Peyrefitte, you know who chairs the J.P.A.C.? The purpose of the Joint Publics Account Committee is to exercise oversight over public expenditure, chaired by Tracey Taegar Panton, United Democratic Party. You hear Senator Salas, seven months and absolutely nothing has been done, because you all didn’t make a quorum. The Chairman of the Joint Publics Accounts Committee is Tracey Taegar, U.D.P. opposition. The majority of the members are not government people. You all have the majority, you have not met, and you come here and hurl words of hustle. You, Senator Peyrefitte, as the Chairman of the U.D.P., you should get Tracey Taegar to do her work and to call the committee to scrutinize what has been done.”
