Will Dorothy Bradley return as Auditor General?
Since she retired from office late last year, the Briceño administration has not been able to find a replacement for the Auditor General. Dorothy Bradley was the first female to hold the post when she was appointed back in September of 2011 and carried out damning audits under the U.D.P. administration. With no one behind the wheel at this time, PM Briceño was asked if a contract would be extended to Bradley.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“I didn’t speak with her before she retired and at that moment, she was of the opinion that she think she needs to rest. Is she reconsidering? Probably she is. The challenge that we have is trying to find a suitable candidate at this time. So if she were to be asked to stay on at least one more year until we find a suitable candidate, I wouldn’t be oppose.”

“But then it is worthy of opposition because you cannot have somebody who should hold the government to task on a contract because then as you know – you criticised the Barrow administration for contract judges many times – you cannot have people whose job must be independent working on a contract and maybe it wah get renewed, maybe I noh get renew, maybe dehn pull mi contract. They must have tenure.”
Prime Minister John Briceño
“This case is different. I am serious. I am not arguing with you. It is different in this instance simply because first she refused. She said it is time you get somebody else. And we have been having some issues in trying to find an adequate replacement and it speaks no ill-will about the people that are there presently, but we believe that they may need a little more of experience. So for her to be asked to come back for one more year, what can she do in one year? I mean could she do anything out of the way? The auditor general supposedly would be more independent – in your words, not mine – can come and investigate anything since it is only for one year, if that is going to happen. The FinSec has not apprised me of that matter though.”
