PM Briceño: Shyne Misspoke About Being Leader of the House of Representatives

Although it is not an official post in the Belizean parliament, during an appearance on the Wendy Show in the United States this week, Mesopotamia Area Rep., Shyne Barrow, spoke of himself as “the Leader of the House of Representatives.” Many view this description by the Leader of the Opposition as disingenuous. It also omits the reality that he enjoys the confidence of the five U.D.P. area reps in parliament, including himself.  Today, Prime Minister John Briceño chuckled, saying Shyne misspoke during his self-promoting tour.

“I think he misspoke; he is the Leader of the Opposition and by virtue of being the leader of the P.U.P. and the Prime Minister, I am the leader of the House.”

“That’s okay, that’s okay. I think he misspoke as usual, always putting his foot in his mouth. But I guess hopefully he will learn soon. He’s making a fool of himself and they are looking at us as a laughing stock when he’s there promoting because he is there promoting himself, not promoting Belize. So talking that he is a rapper and now he dah di leader and wah be prime minister; when he is not talking about Belize itself – the beauty of Belize, the people, the challenges and things that can be done. It is a self-promoting tour and not about Belize.”
