Boom to the City Canoe Race this Sunday
This weekend, paddlers will get an opportunity to compete against each other and get back on the water to test out their equipment. The Belize Canoeing Association is also bringing back its “Boom to the City Canoe Race,” powered by Guinness. The competition has seven categories. Penner told us more.
Elvin Penner, President, Belize Canoeing Association
“This is the second race we are doing this year. The first one was a few weeks ago, which is the boom to the Manatee Lookout where we already saw a lot of excitement. We have more teams already than we normally have in any one of our races. We have seen the excitement keep building up. And, the race we are doing this Sunday, the twentieth of February, from Burrell Boom to the River Side Tavern, is pretty much the last pretty much the last leg of the La Ruta Maya. It is called Boom to the City Canoe Race powered by Guinness. So, we have Guinness, Bowen and Bowen to sponsor us. So, this is pretty much known and it is use as the preliminary race for the La Ruta Maya. It is the last race before the La Ruta Maya. So, we kind of started this race so teams can come out and test their equipment, test their paddles, see what their equipment is like, and see how well they are fit and how they fit with the rest of the teams, and they still have at least two weeks to fix some of the errors.”
