Minister Balderamos tours Salvation Army

Story Picture
This afternoon Dolores Balderamos Garcia toured the various centers of the Salvation Army as part of the Ministry of Human Development’s commitment to care and provide the best for the elderly and destitute.

Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Minister of Human Development

“It has been a while since the Salvation Army invited me to visit and as you know I have a great interest in seeing the good work of the Salvation Army. I think their record speaks for itself; I don’t need to add to that. But I would like you to know that our Ministry is very seriously concerned about the elderly and the poorest of the poor and the constituency, if you could put it that way, of the Salvation Army. And as you may know, we have been working very hard in the Department of Human Development to assist with a program of getting homeless people off the street. The Salvation Army has been a wonderful partner in this effort. I can’t tell you that it’s one hundred percent successful but we are working together on it.”

Captain Stanley Griffin, Head, Salvation Army

“We are hoping that we will be able to have greater working relationship with the Ministry of Human Development. We fall under their ministry and the home for the homeless is government owned and we administer the services there. We just needed the Minister to get a feel of what actually happens there on a day to day basis.”

In related news, Captain Griffin leaves Belize in July after serving a three-year term. He says his stay in Belize has been tremendous and challenging and a lot of work has been accomplished. Griffin says he hopes the Salvation Army in Belize continues to grow in strength and will continue to help in times of need. Griffin, who will be taking up the post of Division Commander in Montego Bay, Jamaica, will be replaced by Captain Jim Garth who will be coming from Costa Rica.
