Young Man Dies a Week after Accident

There is a sad story tonight involving a young man who was in an accident in Corozal. Twenty year old Odiel Tzul has died after being hospitalized for seven days following the hit and run incident at the Corozal Free Zone. According to police, Tzul was walking when an S.U.V. being driven by twenty one year old Brandon Acosta hit him from behind. Tzul was left with head and body injuries. The driver of the S.U.V., Brandon Acosta, allegedly did not stop to render aid, but continued on, crashing just moments later into a van.  Odiel Tzul was interested in conservation and part of Oceana’s Wave Makers initiative.  News Five spoke via phone to Ryan Rivera, the Corozal Field Representative for Oceana Belize.

“Firstly, we at Oceana would like to extend our most sincere condolence to the Tzul family on the untimely passing of Odiel Tzul. We would like to set for the record that he was a Wave-maker who participated in multiple of our activities, which ranged from cleanups and online surveys to assistance for recruiting new Wave-makers. He was always positive and kind hearted and tried to assist in whatever way he could. The last conversation he had he has asked me if I could update the contact information for him so that he could stay updated on what is going on because he had changed his number. I did that because he expressed that he wanted to be more involved.”

It is expected that the charges against the driver, Brandon Acosta, will take into account the loss of life.  We will continue to follow.
