Man dies off San Pedro
A man drowned fourteen miles north of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye on Saturday morning. According to reports reaching News Five, Luis Javier Campos, who works nine miles outside of San Pedro, went on a fishing trip with his boss Lee Karlston and another male companion. When they reached the Basil Jones area a large wave hit the boat and filled it with water. The three tried to bail it out but another wave hit them, this time capsizing the boat. Luckily a passing tour guide managed to rescue Lee Karlston and the other man. However, they were unable to save Campos. His lifeless body was found half an hour later.
In another sensational story at the cayes, early Sunday morning a man swam ashore at Caye Caulker and told astonished villagers that he and his three companions from Honduras had been adrift at sea for nine days. The victims were rescued from their boat near the reef and taken to the village medical center. They were later transferred to Belize City and were treated at the Karl Heusner Memorial for dehydration.
