Ministry of Natural Resources Spokesman Says Team Has Been Assigned to Bella Vista
News Five reached out to the Minister of Natural Resources, Cordel Hyde, for comment on the issues in Bella Vista that we witnessed on Sunday. In response, Paul Thompson, the Chief of Staff for Minister Hyde, told us today that a group of villagers from Bella Vista went to the Ministry’s office on Monday to seek intervention on the land disputes. Thompson says the problem was created years ago when there was no efficient system in place and village council officials distributed land, often without conducting proper surveys. He said that a team has been assigned to look into the matter and to streamline a process that will determine how the problem will be rectified. Thompson added that this is a problem that exists in many parts of Belize which the Ministry is trying to regularize.
