Selling Belize-Grown Agricultural Products in Central America
A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, headed by Minister Jose Abelardo Mai, is currently in El Salvador as Belize further explores trade with Central American countries. They travelled as part of a convoy that will see locally grown vegetables sold in that country. At the official inauguration of the Roaring Creek Bridge and a portion of the George Price Highway, Prime Minister John Briceño spoke of the importance and possibilities of this venture.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“As Belize starts to strengthen its ties with Central America, especially Guatemala, our neighbour, this highway is going to be playing an even more critical role in facilitating trade from one country to the next. As we speak right now, our Minister of Agriculture, Abelardo Mai along with a team from the Ministry of Agriculture; they are travelling with a forty-foot container load of vegetables and products from Belize and they are driving all the way to San Salvador. And they expect that tomorrow they are going to be there at the area where they sell vegetables, opening up the doors of the container and sells the products. That speaks to the connectivity between us and the rest of Central America and the opportunities that exist.”
