“It’s About Following the Rule of Law” – Hector Guerra
The case of the one point five million dollars—is it really about the Christian Workers Union or is it about following the rule of law? According to attorney Hector Guerra, the required procedures which ought to be adhered to should not be flouted.
Hector Guerra, Attorney-at-law
“This case is really not about the C.W.U. It is really about upholding the constitution which is the highest law of the land and ensuring that any monies which are spent from the public purse to which all Belizeans through the taxes we pay contribute, we‘re trying to ensure that those monies are only spent with the requisite parliamentary approval and that is all that this case is about. It has nothing to do with personalities, instead it has to do with upholding the constitution of Belize.”

“In the event that the requisite parliamentary approval is granted by the next sitting, what does that mean for this case?”
“Well, we will certainly have to reconsider the matter. We have our own views as to whether that would cure the misstep that has happened, but because the matter is still sub jurist, it’s still before the court, I would not want to comment on what our position, if that were to happen, will be. But I will say that it will, of course, trigger a reconsideration of what is transpiring before the courts.”
The matter has been adjourned to March sixteenth at 9:30 a.m. The attorneys for the C.W.U. are Darrell Bradley and Magali Perdomo.
