F.C.C.A. Looks at Cruise Tourism in Belize Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Cruise tourism in Belize continues to rebound rapidly, notwithstanding the pandemic and its devastating effect on the industry in 2020. On Monday, Michelle Paige, President of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association, along with other executives of the F.C.C.A., arrived in Belize on a working visit.  During their time in country, they met with government officials to discuss the state of cruise tourism amid Belize’s economic recovery.

“It’s been extremely important that your government understood that the cruise industry has risen above the pandemic and been able to implement standards that are higher than even the C.D.C.’s requirements. The cruise industry, unfortunately, has been singled out.  We have had testing, testing, testing, protocols, protocols, protocols and still we have been looked at as not providing enough. And so, it’s really good now that the cruise industry is back in full swing and we still are doing everything we can, first of all, to sanitize, to be able to have everyone have the COVID vaccines and one hundred percent of our passengers under the age of twelve are vaccinated and having one hundred percent of our crew vaccinated and to be able to have a safe and clean environment.  And if there is any testing, we do test and anything or anybody that has developed COVID is quarantined. So we know that we are taking care of everyone and we look forward to be one hundred percent back to Belize.”
