Pre-school kids march to kick off Child Stimulation Month

This morning thousands of preschoolers and their parents, guardians and relatives took to the streets of the old capital. Their mission was to increase attention to the need for early childhood education and to open Child Stimulation Month. According to Vice President of the Pre-school Teacher’s Association, Yvette Nicholas, this year’s celebration marks the twenty-fifth year that Belize has been commemorating the month and they’ve got plenty of activities planned.

Yvette Nicholas, VP, Pre-school Teacher’s Assn.
“It brings awareness to parents and the public out there who are not aware of what is happening where early childhood is concerned. Early childhood is our foundation and we encourage parents and the public to be more involved with our early childhood children. For the month, it continues on in our schools. We have our school set up with different activities. One of the things we all do together is a culture day. We have that date specifically set aside when all the schools will be celebrating that together. That is when the children come in dressed as different ethnic group and they would bring in the foods that the ethnic group eats. We have a sports day set as well. We have a number of different activities.”

Almost seven thousand children are attending a hundred and seventy-nine pre-schools across the country.
