TACA to resume Miami flights
Sometimes a losing proposition can be turned into a winning one, if you’re willing to look at the problem from a different angle. Business was so bad on Grupo TACA’s Belize-Miami flight that the company decided to cancel it, but negotiations between the company and the Belize government have resulted not only in a resumption of service, but better service. Beginning June 19th Belize will be one of the stops on a revamped Guatemala City-Miami route which will allow for same day connections to the Caribbean, other American cities and even Europe. The flight will originate in the morning in Guatemala City, stop in Flores, Peten, touchdown in Belize City and then proceed to Miami, arriving there in the early afternoon. The return is the same in reverse. As an added bonus travelers can connect to Cancun from Flores. There is such optimism about the changes that TACA says the Belize Tourism Board, Belize Global Travel Services and Grupo TACA will launch a special promotional campaign, especially for its European market. Although the TACA Miami crisis seems to have been averted it is still not clear if any changes will be made to TACA’s Houston flights. Earlier this year their direct flight to New Orleans was eliminated.
