Senior Crown Counsel Remembers His Friend, Herbie
Senior Crown Counsel, Javier Chan, who was Herbert Panton’s colleague in the legal profession, reflected on the life of the man he called friend.
Javier Chan, Senior Crown Counsel
“Death was not a state that Herbert regarded with any trepidation. He was ready to embrace death. He always told me on the many occasions during our great friendship, “Doctor, when I dead I nuh want nobody cry. I want everybody party.” He would take a sip and say “kilich kalach, case closed.” But Herbert must have known that he was the kind of person upon whose death we would not cry. We would bawl, not party, but eternally mourn. Herbert, as everyone knew, did it his way. Herbert was one of a kind. His rich laughter filled many ears. We will never forget that one of a kind laughter of Herbert. Herbert loved Tracy. There is no doubt about that. Adrianna and Hope were his heartstring. That I know.”
