Recognition for Outstanding Public Officers

In 2020, the Public Service Awards Gala was cancelled because of COVID-19. As a result, the Walk of Recognition and Inspiration in Belmopan was created to continue the tradition of recognizing outstanding public officers. Recently, more names were added to the sidewalk and another plaque was unveiled on the monument. Here is a brief look at what took place at the ceremony in Belmopan, courtesy the Government Press Office.

Nikki Augustine, Belmopan City Council

“The pandemic brought on new challenges to the public service and the world. We quickly had to change, adopt and become more innovative in order to get the work done. Public servants did not fail and we were reminded not only of your vitality, but your importance to every aspect of our lives. Everything that had to be done to develop our country and to deliver service to others depends on the work of public servants.”

Henry Charles Usher

Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Public Service

“I have to say I am very proud to be a part of the unveiling process today as Minister of the Public Service. I believe we have to honor those that have served so many years. These persons represent service. They represent what the Public Service is all about. This is just one small way of remembering them. These individuals have been there before the days of C.E.O.s, when we had permanent secretaries, when we had a budget in the eighties of a few million dollars. Now, the budget is over a billion dollars, and over fifteen thousand public officers. So, they have been there from the very beginning, seen the service grow, grow along with the service. In addition to the recognition and thanking you for the service, I am hoping there is some way we can harness your values, the way you were bright up in the public service so that we can educate the younger public officers.”
