Resort owner donates 20 trucks to police
Even his own employees were surprised by the size of the donation Larry Addington of Caye Chapel decided to make to the Police Department. And today not five, not ten but sixteen pickups were handed over to Minister Jorge Espat. And four more trucks are on the way. The gift, worth one point two million dollars, is not the first by Caye Chapel Enterprises. Addington recently contributed twenty thousand dollars to the Police Trust Fund and made renovations to the Caye Caulker Police Station. Addington was represented today by Brad Ringold.

“Initially I guess security was the biggest issue for Belize and I guess transportation was a major issue for Minister Espat. So after the meeting and after Minister Espat had left Larry said that we were planning to donate pick-up trucks. Of course two days later I found out that it was twenty pick-up trucks. So it was quite a surprise to me and the Minister that it was going to be so much. We had figured probably three to five pick-up trucks.”

“They will be distributed across the country and certainly will be distributed in priority areas. I believe out of these sixteen today about six of them will remain in Belize City and we will be sending the rest to the districts. And when the other vehicles come we are going to deploy them where they are needed most.
Certainly it is a significant gift to the Ministry of National Security and to the Belize Police Department at a time when police are in need of resources.”
Ringold says that the other four pick-up trucks are at the port ready for shipment to Belize and this won’t be the last donation from the Caye Chapel Enterprises. Earlier this week the Ministry of National Security received 11 Land Rovers from the British Government for the Belize Defense Force.
