Government to ask airlines to take over Miami flights
On Monday, TACA suspended its flights to Miami. Today the government announced it will be looking to other airlines to fill the void. It was agreed during Cabinet’s meeting in Belmopan that the Ministries of Tourism and Transport would continue negotiations with other carriers to accommodate these passengers. The Ministry of Tourism will also be appointing a member of the new Gaming Control Board. The board, which was created through an amendment to the Gaming Control Bill, will have seven members representing several Ministries. It will include a representative from the Lotteries Commission and two members appointed by the Minister of Finance. A review of national security will be undertaken with assistance from the British government. Initiatives will include the use of civilians rather than uniformed officers on police phone lines, phones for substations, a review of the current gun licensing policy and the use of additional B.D.F. personnel for certain programs. The government will also upgrade its capabilities for handling national disasters. Changes include price freezes on certain supplies such as plywood, proper securing of public buildings and preparations of shelters by B.D.F. personnel and the recall of all government vehicles for deployment as needed.
