An Annual Report from the Speaker of the House
House Speaker Valerie Woods announced the completion of the Report from the Office of the Speaker, House of Representatives – Thirteenth Parliamentary Session on Tuesday during a meeting of parliament. In her introduction of the document, Speaker Woods says, quote, the purpose is to foster the principle of open parliament by providing an end of year summary report to the members and to the public on the house’s accomplishments, challenges and the recommendations from the Office of the Speaker to allow for greater public engagement and enhanced legislative openness, unquote. The House of Representatives met ten times last year, introduced sixty-two bills of which fifty-five became Acts of Parliament. Thirty-two motions were introduced and ratified in the House of Representatives.
