Primary School Student Drowns in Belize River
A child drowned in the Cayo District on Monday afternoon. Rebecka Thompson, a primary school student from San Ignacio, was reportedly in the care of her godmother, Mary Arnold, in Carmelita Gardens. Rebecka’s mom, Marina Vidal, and her dad had reportedly travelled to Belize City that day. Upon their return, Vidal received a call from Arnold requesting that she take a cab over to Arnold’s home in Carmelita Gardens. There she was given the heart breaking news about her daughter Rebecka. Here is what Vidal had to say, courtesy the Pandy Show.
Marina Vidal, Mother of Deceased
“When I arrived in San Ignacio, I messaged her and told her I have arrived. She said, just come over now. I am asking where. She said to my house. She said don’t bring the other two kids. I think you don’t want to bring them. But, I never thought in my mind that is going to happen. So, I talked to my husband about it and he said, did she speak to you like nervously? He told me call her back. So, I called her back and I asked her, I tell her M.s Mary that is her name, is everything ok with my daughter? She said, just come over now, take a taxi and I will be waiting for you. I was thinking I don’t know what happened, maybe my daughter broke something. I never expected what I was going to go and see. When we arrived at her house in Santa Familia, she was at her home with other neighbors and when I came out of the taxi I saw her by the verandah and she was cleaning her face. She told me and my husband to have a seat. My husband did sit down. When I came in I was looking around the verandah and I saw dark. So, I told her where is my daughter, what happened. She hold my two hands and she started to cry. I was like, where is my daughter. She couldn’t tell me about it. One of her neighbors told me what happened and I was shock. It was news I couldn’t take.”
