World Meteorological Day: “Early Warning and Early Action”

World Meteorological Day was celebrated today under the theme “Early Warning and Early Action”. The focus this year is on having accessible hydro-meteorological and climate information to aid in disaster risk reduction and sustainable development. Because of the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events worldwide, more people are exposed to multiple hazards and compound disasters. The department says it works closely with the National Emergency Management Organization and other partners both during and outside of the hurricane season. The Met Service notes the continued improvement of early warning services at weather stations across the country and capacity building that provides critical real-time data required to alert vulnerable communities of any impending threat to life and/or property.
