What’s In It for John Saldivar?
What’s the future of John Saldivar and the United Democratic Party? He lost his constituency in the last general election; nonetheless, Saldivar has still proven himself as an influential figure in U.D.P. politics, rallying up his delegates to secure a win for Shyne Barrow. But, does this mean the former Belmopan area rep is making a comeback or that he will be rewarded a seat in the upper house for his effort?
John Saldivar, Former Area Representative, Belmopan
“That was not the quid pro quo. We wanted the best leader, the best person and all of us as candidates will have to fight our battle in our constituency and that’s all I can say at this time. There is no quid pro quo, he’s going to be neutral as far as I am concerned and that’s what a leader is supposed to do.”

“Once upon a time, you and Tracy were close allies and that relationship has obviously suffered during this campaign. Do you expect that you will be able to re-forge your relationship with her?”
John Saldivar
“We have to because we are one party and we have to face the P.U.P. together and I see no difficulty at all in that. I don’t see any problems with Tracy and I and actually Tracy and Shyne and the whole party coming back together after this. This was just a competition for who would be the leader. It’s over now.”

‘So you said there was no quid pro quo, so we won’t be seeing Senator John Saldivar?”
John Saldivar
“Well I can’t tell you that, that’s not my decision to make.”

“But you would be open to it.”
John Saldivar
“I would be open to any role that I need to play in this party to help to rebuild this party.”
