Ro-mac’s bought out by Santiago Castillo
It may not be the biggest or brightest, but for many people Ro-mac’s Supermarket on Albert Street remains the place of choice to fill the kitchen cupboard. Earlier this week, however, the forty-five year old business changed owners as it was purchased by the Santiago Castillo Group. News Five could not confirm the terms of the deal but it is believed the new owners will continue to use the Ro-mac’s name and will retain virtually all of the existing staff. The Castillo Group, which is the nation’s largest wholesale grocery importer, also owns Save U Supermarket near the Belcan Bridge. The Castillos will now go head to head with arch rival Brodies, although some observers have pointed out that their real competitor lies 80 miles to the north at Super San Francisco de Asis.
