U.D.P. Leader Says Constituents Decide the Way Forward
When asked about the fate of those in the U.D.P. who form the Caucus for Change, Party Leader Barrow says it is for the constituents to decide. Barrow says constituency conventions need to be held, and he intends to take a hands-off approach when U.D.P. supporters are making their decisions.
Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Party Leader, U.D.P.
“What needs to happen is that we need to have constituency conventions and the constituents need to determine who they want to change. That is not my decision to make. The people that are in the party were elected by their constituents, even though they did not win the general elections, they are still duly elected caretakers. It would be offensive and disrespectful of the democratic process to say oh well it is my opinion that you shouldn’t be a part of the Party because of x, y, and z. that is not for me to determine. That is for the people in the constituency to determine. Once they do that, whether or not you are a part of Caucus for Change, you supported me, or you didn’t support me, I will work with you based on what the constituency says. I will make that clear. I as party leader will not interfere with any convention for any one. I will stay out of it, in front of the scene and behind the scene, because I want the popular candidate. I want the candidate that the people want. What has happened over the last however many years is exactly what you said, oh well change. So who determines change? The party leader determines change? No, this is not my party. This party belongs to the party faithful.”
