The Blue Bond Awards Is a Big Deal Internationally, Coye Says

The successful Blue Bond transaction placed Belize in much better standing with its external debt. Coye says that on the global scene, this means a lot for Belize.

“This award is the only instance in which this Blue Bond is gaining recognition. We also have – I think this transaction being considered for another award which would be granted by the New York University School of Law. That would be in connection with the attorneys associated with this transaction. So that is, I believe, something under review over the next several weeks and we will see what is the outcome of that. But yes, what we are looking at is the fact that it’s one-of-its-kind at this point in time but it’s a trend setter in the sense that there’s much expectation that others will follow Belize in trying to arrange similar transactions as this. For Belize, what it has done is not only about the debt reduction – the relief in terms of our external debt obligations, in terms of our cash flow and foreign exchange and all that stuff, but it has also given us a heightened standing in the global community.”
