Murdered child’s mother remembers

Story Picture
The murder of Jackie Malic earlier this month is still on everyone’s mind, but as brutal and shocking as her death was, she was not the first. In October another little girl was terrorized, tortured and then killed. Her body was dumped, like a sack of garbage, on a side road. Her killer has so far eluded police. He may even have struck again. Sherilee Nicholas’ mother is still grieving the loss of her child, but she is also frightened for other children out there. Tonight, this woman who has borne what no mother should ever have to bear, wants to tell you about her daughter. She is also asking you to help the authorities stop this maniac before he selects another pre-teen and does the unthinkable again.

Six months have passed and still the brutal rape and murder of thirteen year old Sherilee Nicholas remains unsolved. Nicholas would have turned fourteen on Saturday April second. She was the first of two primary school students to be murdered in a manner strongly believed to be that of a serial killer.

June Gabourel, Mother

“What really happened; what could have really happened? What could my little girl do that was so bad to that man that he had to kill her and cut her up at least her face? You know cut her up and stab up in the chest and big bruises. What could my little girl do to that man? I don’t think no little girl could hurt a man so much that he has to brutally murder them and leave them there or maybe he was right there standing watching them bleed to death.”

Nicholas was tortured and then savagely raped by someone police believe the minor knew and trusted.

Dr. Mario Estradabran, Police Pathologist

“Nicholas was raped and we found abundant amount quantity of seminal fluid in her mouth, inside her vagina and inside her anus.”

It is a heinous crime June Gabourel, Nicholas’ mom does not want anyone to forget. She is working hard to try and keep her daughter’s memory alive in the hope that someone who knows what happened will come forward.

June Gabourel

“Somebody must have seen something and I would like whosoever saw to come out and talk because the next time it will not only be my child or Malic, it could be their sister or their neighbor’s children or their brother’s children.”

This Saturday as the Nicholas family lights the birthday candle for their younger daughter who was also born on the same day a year earlier than Sherilee, a special wish will also be made to bring Nicholas’ killer to justice.

June Gabourel

“I feel sad; I feel sad plus upset knowing that her birthday is coming near and they haven’t found anybody who did the killing and she will be sadly missed by family and friends because on her birthday we usually have a party. It’s time for fun and enjoyment and she will be sadly missed.”

While at this time the police do not have any evidence in the murder of Sherilee Nicholas whose body was found in October of 1998, it is strongly believed that whosoever murdered the little girl is also responsible for the recent rape and murder of Jackie Fern Malic. Malic’s body was found at mile eight on the Western Highway on Wednesday March twenty fourth, just four miles from the spot where Nicholas’ body was found.
