While with the Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, News Five asked about the plans going forward to ensure inclusion at all levels. Here’s what Minister Elvia Vega-Samos had to say.
Elvia Vega-Samos, Minister of State, Human Development
“It is okay for everybody to have their own personal opinions, but at the end of the day, as a country, it is important that we come together and we make the best for our country. It only takes us to come together and talk to each other. I think communication is key. In any relationship, communication is key. Empathizing and putting yourself in other people’s shoes.”

“I just wanted to ask if you see any other advancements, whether it be in technology or as you mention communicating with the people who fall under this ministry, to more effectively hear their voices or to do more work for them?”
“Definitely, I believe we should have trainings planned for our workers, more workshops. Getting to know what is working, what is not working. How can the ministry reach out to each of the workers and from there it is a trickled down effect because you would have a good relationship with the people in our society, with the women, with the children, with the families. So if our workers are happy, then it just trickles down and everybody feels included then or is included.”
