B.D.F. Soldier Charged with Murder
Today, the chilling video of a man being stomped repeatedly on a highway median sent shockwaves across social media and by this evening, twenty-seven-year-old B.D.F. Private Raheem Williams of Rivas Estate Area in Dangriga Town was charged with murder. Private Williams, who is stationed at Colonel Eyles Camp in Orange Walk, was captured on amateur video during the incident which occurred near the Central Park in Orange Walk Town on Friday night. The victim, thirty-eight-year-old Estevan Baeza, reportedly got into an altercation with the soldier. The fight ended with Baeza unconscious while Private Williams, who was off-duty and in casual clothing, stood over him and stomped him multiple times. A number of citizens approached and a police mobile pulled up shortly after. Baeza was put into the pan of the pickup and rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital. He was later transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital as he had suffered severe head and throat injuries, but died two days later. Late this evening, police formally arrested and charged Williams for the crime of Murder. The B.D.F. has issued a statement of condolences to the family and promises to facilitate the investigation by police.
