S.J.C. students protest violence

Story Picture
Fed up with the unsolved murders of children and a rise in reports of the sexual abuse of minors, the students of S.J.C. Sixth Form marched in protest against the violence and abuse. They say children are now being hurt on a regular basis and enough is enough. They want the authorities to take stronger action.

Derek Flowers

“We feel that it is the youth’s job to say something that has been going on. If we don’t say something, we are the future leaders, we need to start now and make a stand.

They definitely need to bring in experts that will be more scientific in what they are doing. Forensics need to be more deep and in depth. And when we find these criminals we bring them to justice and take the highest justice and throw out the Privy Council man.”

Inez Fernandez

“Well I’m out here to stop the violence and stop the crime that the people are doing to the youths. As we come out here today, S.J.C. as one, to stop everything. And Belize could become like how it was ten years ago with more peace.”

Dawn Arzu

“There is an obvious streak of violence in Belize right now. And we at S.J.C. want the public to know that we are aware of what is going on. And we want to make a stand for it and we want the public to know that we care.”

The protest march, which began at S.J.C. in West Landivar made its way through the streets to the Battlefield Park on Albert and Regent Streets.
