Anger Management and Psychological Assistance Needed for Police Officers Too
Minister Musa agrees that police officers also need to have some anger management classes. In fact, he has been pushing to have a psychologist assigned to the men and women of the force to help deal with a variety of mental health issues. He told us about that move.
Kareem Musa, Minster of Home Affairs
“It has been something, one of the things I have been insisting on in the department. Unfortunately getting the approval for it has been a little slow. We have applied to get a permanent full time psychologist on board, for exactly the very same reason. We had submitted it since last October. Unfortunately, we are still waiting for the public service to create that post. But, it is certainly a post that urgently needed within our department. Last year October when we applied for it we had seventeen police officers who were on suicide watch. That is a lot of officers going through a lot of trauma, going through a lot of personal issues that we need to address. So, I am eagerly awaiting the approval of this post so that we can get a psychologist on board for this department.”
