BAR Association Condemns Excessive Force Displayed by Security Services

While Williams will have his day in court with the aid of an attorney to put up a defense, the Bar Association of Belize has condemned the use of excessive force by members of law enforcers and security services. The members also expressed regret at the loss of life due to such violence. In a press release issued today, the Association wrote “The privileges bestowed on members of Belize’s security forces come with an associated duty to uphold the rule of law. The fundamental duties of the security forces are to protect the life, safety and well-being of residents.” The Bar Association calls on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and fair investigation into all allegations of any such abuse. They too extend condolences to the family of Estevan Baeza.
