Update on Jackie Malic’s murder
It sent shockwaves through the city when the sad news was reported yesterday that twelve year old Jackie Fern Malic’s body had been found off a feeder road by mile eight on the Western Highway. Malic was reported missing on Monday after failing to show up for class or report home that night. The results of a postmortem this morning by Dr. Mario Estradabran at the Belmopan Hospital Morgue have not yet been released. However, police said today that Malic’s body had multiple stab wounds to her face, buttocks, knee and upper left arm. One of her arms had been amputated. Police are declining to comment on the specifics of their investigation but told News Five two men have been detained for questioning so far. One of the men was picked up yesterday. Malic was twelve years old and a student at St. Ignatius School. Malic is the latest child homicide in recent months. There were three other cases: Sherilee Nicholas who was found dead in the same vicinity as Malic and disappeared from the same part of town in October, Rebecca Gilharry who was killed in Corozal and Samantha Gordon whose body was found dumped by the sea in Ladyville. No arrests have been made in the Nicholas or Gordon cases. A family friend was charged with the death of Gilharry.
