NEAB Canvasses the Old Capital for Signatures
So what is the count on the number of signatures obtained thus far? According to Pastor Wade, a second tally has not been conducted since the most recent figures were made public on Tuesday.
Pastor Louis Wade, National Evangelical Association of Belize
“The taskforce did a preliminary count on Monday night and we were glad that we were able to surpass the thirteen thousand mark by just a few votes, and we looked at what we needed to do within our second timeframe. And so, we came up with five in five, which is five thousand votes in five days. So that is where we are right now, we have not done a second count. I can only say that if you divide five thousand into five, you’re looking at about a thousand per day and we met that margin yesterday. So we are halfway through today and I have not heard from any of the guys. I have actually come up to Belize City, we haffi do weh di politicians do, weh yoh call stamping. So I’m visiting several locations, just encouraging the petitioners, because they are all doing it for free and just sharing with them stories and examples. This is a pure people’s movement, the church is really made up of people and it’s about empowering and encouraging people to have a voice. So, from the very beginning the church was uncertain where the nation is on this issue. We were certain where the church is on the issue and so knowing where the people stand on the issue is important because it has to minister, be it north side, south side, or to individuals who are just casual users or people who are addicted.”
