A Teenager Drowns in Bullet Tree on Easter Monday
Sixteen-year-old Enrique Quiroz, a resident of Santiago Juan Layout in San Ignacio, lost his life over the Easter weekend when he drowned in the river near Bullet Tree Village. Quiroz was swimming along with two other teenagers when he went under. A distress call was made to police who responded to an area near the cemetery where a search party was observed diving for the body. Despite all attempts to resuscitate Quiroz, he would not recover. Quiroz’s body was transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where it was pronounced dead on arrival.

“On Monday, April 18th, 2022, about two p.m., police received information that a young man submerged into the river in [Bullet Tree] Village near the burial ground area. Police immediately responded and went out there and were assisted by the general public to search for this body. The body was found by a villager and brought to the bank of the river where they tried to apply C.P.R. but to no avail. He was transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead by a medical officer. The body was identified by Anya Quiroz, a twenty-six-year-old who claimed that it was her brother, Enrique Quiroz, sixteen-years old of Santiago Juan Layout. We didn’t observe any physical injuries to the body and will be waiting for the post mortem results.”
