Was Processing of Accident Scene on George Price Highway Too Hasty?

There have been questions raised about the haste with which the scene of the deadly accident was processed. While those concerns may be valid, Communications Director Fitzroy Yearwood says that the officers who responded to the scene were thorough in their work and moved quickly so as not to impede the progress of the race.

“The Cross Country was coming and the officers worked diligently and swiftly to clear the highway as to not cause any form of, how to say, to impede the [flow of] traffic. So both trucks were removed and hauled to the shoulder of the road. We want to thank the driver of an excavator that assisted us in moving these vehicles off the road.  But at the same time, we cannot please the general public. If we didn’t move the debris off the highway then we would be criticized for stopping the Cross Country. So I believe that our officers operated in a swift, professional manner. All that was needed, the sketch plan was drawn, and the scene was processed to our satisfaction, knowing that at the end of the day we would be able to determine which driver was at fault. We had people lined up watching the Cross Country, we have several witnesses. People have been interviewed and we will continue to interview people when it comes to this case. I am certain that our officers did a great job out there that day, bearing in mind what the other elements that were affecting them and I am certain that at the end of the day we will bring proper justice to whosoever is at fault and to the family of the deceased.”
