Alleged Killer on the Run Following Guinea Grass Murder
There were three separate murders, in three districts, over the long Easter weekend. We begin in Northern Belize, in Guinea Grass village, where an alleged killer is on the run from the law. Nelson De Jesus Segovia allegedly shot and killed Jose Cedillos on Good Friday in front of Cedillos’ family. The alleged killer reportedly responded to information that Cedillos was acting boisterously against a relative of his. In a fit of rage, Segovia allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Cedillos multiple times in front of Cedillos’ relatives. He has since fled the community, leaving behind a family that is forced to pick up the pieces in the wake of witnessing the murder of their loved one. News Five’s Paul Lopez visited the Cedillos’ residence in Guinea Grass. He filed the following report.
The father of a mentally challenged man who was shot to death inside his yard on Good Friday, in Guinea Grass Village, recounted the incident as it unfolded. Jose Cedillos Sr. was inside the yard repairing a motorbike when a neighbor, who is now a fugitive of the law, entered the yard and shot his namesake sonfour times. Several children were also in the yard at the time. They all witnessed the horrific ordeal. Elvira Cedillos, the sister of the deceased, told us what transpired.

He just talk and then he forget that. He pick up two rock stone and he gawn by the neighbor like fih beat my niece. He never beat my niece though. He say lef it, when yo come back home I wah beat unuih tell deh.”
Elvira Cedillos alleges that moments later, Nelson De Jesus Segovia , the murder suspect, received information that Jose Cedillos threw stones at his grandmother’shouse. Elvira Cedillos argues that the information Segovia received was false. In response, Segovia reportedly confronted Jose Cedillos in a fit of rage.
“The man just come the run cross with four rock stones and he she, ‘f’ weh part mike deh? And he stone my breda house. Suh when he stone my breda house, my breda come out. When my bredasih he got rock stone, my breda pick up two stone. But he keep on the stone my breda. None nuh ketch my breda. Suh when my breda do fih stone he, when he sihihneva got no gun, he haal out ih gun and shoot my breda. When he shoot my breda, my breda drop. So, he gone close and keep on the shoot my breda. Suh me gawn close to my breda and tell ah, Mike stand up bway defend youself.”
Segovia is presently on the run. In the wake of the shooting, Cedillos’ family frantically attempted to assist him. He drew his last breath while lying on a chair at the rear of the family home.

“I am very sick in my heart because I saw the murder of my son. I was taking care of my motorcycle in my yard. I was not expecting this man to come in my yard and take the life of my son. He took out a pistol and shot my son four times. Right there is where he killed him, my son with the gun.”
Here is what ASP Fitzroy Yearwood told reporters this morning about the incident.

“This is only my opinion. Tempers flare when people believe that they are being threatened. But, in this case Segovia was not being threatened. He was threatening a woman Daisy Pott and Segovia took matters into his own hands. One, he left that yard and went o his own home. The proper thing to have done was to call the police. By you going to that yard and aggravating that person, and that person coming out, that had to be premeditated. So, for you to draw that weapon there is no excuse. I don’t care if that person harasses you a hundred times or someone you love a hundred times, call the police a hundred times. Call them a hundred and one.”
